Prefer paper?

Paper entries are welcome too

Online entry is encouraged, but students may turn in a physical entry to Mrs. Williams, the art teacher. Print the form at home and attach it to the entry.

Step 1

Print the entry form

Print the Texas PTA student entry form on letter paper. Fill it in with black or blue ink, not pencil. Leave the box at the top for Rice PTA to complete.

Step 2

Fill it in

  • Student name, grade, age, mailing address, school, district and teacher.
  • Parent or guardian name, phone and email, and the name of the household member who is a current Rice PTA member.
  • Check one grade division and one art category.
  • Write the title, entry details and artist statement (10–100 words).
  • Sign it. A parent or legal guardian signs too if the student is under 18.

Step 3

Get it ready, then turn it in

  • Visual arts and photos: attach the form to the back in a sheet protector. For visual arts, cover the front with paper secured along one edge, without covering the form. Do not wrap in plastic or laminate.
  • Dance, film and music: put the recording on a flash drive inside an envelope, with the form in a sheet protector on the outside.
  • Literature: put one copy inside a folder, with the form in a sheet protector on the outside.
  • Write the category, grade and your full name on the back of the artwork.
  • Hand it to Mrs. Williams by Friday, November 6, the same day as the online deadline.

Rice PTA may handle paper entries a little differently, so ask Mrs. Williams if you are unsure.

Getting started

Four steps from idea to entry

Every entry follows the same path, whatever category you choose.

  1. Think about the theme

Think family, food, language, music and traditions. Connect your art to the theme.

  2. Pick a category

Choose the art form that says it best. You may enter more than one.

  3. Create it yourself

Brand new work, made by you alone.

  4. Add a title and statement

Add a title and a 10–100 word artist statement, then submit.

Quick answers

Do I have to join PTA?

Yes. The student, or someone in the student's household, must be a current PTA member by October 31. Join Rice PTA.

Can I enter more than one category?

Yes. Each entry must be new, original and made by you alone.

Can a grown-up help me?

No. The art must be created by the student alone. Grown-ups can help with things like getting the file ready and turning it in. Students in the Accessible Arts Division may have help. Write your statement yourself; grown-ups can listen, but the ideas and words are yours.

Who sees my name?

Judges only see an entry number, the title, the artist statement and the art. Your name stays with the PTA.

Where do I turn in a paper entry?

Give it to Mrs. Williams, our art teacher, by November 6.

I missed a deadline. What now?

Contact us as soon as you can and we will let you know what is possible.
